Falah: PNC’s growth reflects public confidence in party’s vision

People’s National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group Leader and Inguraidhoo MP Ibrahim Falah has said the rapid growth of the ruling party reflects increasing public confidence in its leadership, vision and direction for the Maldives.

Speaking at the inauguration of the party’s ongoing Congress, Falah said people choose political parties based on the vision and ideology of their leaders, as well as the strategic direction set by the party for the country’s future.

He said voters are increasingly assessing political parties not only on the promises made during elections, but also on their ability to translate those commitments into tangible work after assuming office.

Falah said the public is closely monitoring the efforts of political parties and their contribution towards national development, stability and prosperity.

He also highlighted the important role of political parties in the country’s democratic system, noting that the State provides financial support to parties based on their membership under the Political Parties Act. He said this support reflects the important responsibility placed on political parties to contribute positively to the development and progress of the Maldives.

Turning to the PNC’s development, Falah highlighted the transformation of the party under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

He noted that while President Muizzu carries the responsibilities of governing the country, he has continued to dedicate attention to strengthening the PNC and improving its internal structure.

Falah said the latest congress represents an important stage in institutionalising the party’s growth, particularly through amendments to its basic charter.

He said the amended charter was approved with the participation of 1,064 members, describing the scale of participation as a significant milestone in the history of political parties in the Maldives. The amendments were unanimously endorsed and are intended to strengthen the party’s organisational structure and broaden member participation.

Among the major changes are the establishment of a Council of Religious Scholars, Women’s Wing, Youth Wing and a dedicated structure for senior citizens.

Falah said the new structures demonstrate the party’s intention to ensure that different sections of Maldivian society have a defined place within its organisational framework.

The revised charter also introduces wider structures for the party’s policy and organisational work, including committees covering key areas such as the economy, national security, health, social affairs, and science and technology.

The PNC’s four-day congress, which began on September 15 and will continue until September 18, is being held with more than 1,300 delegates participating. The congress includes leadership elections, amendments to party regulations, ministerial sessions and discussions on the party’s future direction.
