First Lady Urges Girl Guides to Embrace Leadership and Service

First Lady and Chief Guide Sajidha Mohamed has called on young Girl Guides to develop themselves into principled and capable leaders committed to serving the country and community.

She made the remarks while officiating the closing ceremony of the 25th National Patrol Leaders’ Training Camp held in Vilimalé on Wednesday.

Addressing participants, The First Lady described the annual camp as an important opportunity for students from across the Maldives to learn from one another and gain new experiences beyond the classroom.

Highlighting the 25th anniversary of the Patrol Leaders’ Training camp, she also noted that the Maldives Girl Guides Association will mark its 75th anniversary next year. She congratulated those involved in sustaining and advancing the Girl Guide movement in the country.

The First Lady said the longevity of the movement demonstrates the importance placed by Maldivian society on education, character development and values.

She highlighted discipline, punctuality, healthy living, hard work and compassion towards family and society as qualities promoted through the Girl Guide movement.

According to The First Lady, these values contribute to developing women who can make meaningful contributions to society. She also emphasised the movement’s role in encouraging a spirit of humanitarian service and placing the interests of the wider community above personal benefit.

Referring to the Girl Guide motto, she said it represents perseverance in overcoming difficulties and setbacks while maintaining hope and optimism.

The First Lady encouraged the young participants to recognise that they have the ability to serve the country in different capacities and urged them to approach such responsibilities with integrity, dedication and a strong sense of service.

At the ceremony, Chief Commissioner of the Maldives Girl Guides Association Aishath Nasheeda presented a commemorative gift to the First Lady, while Sajidha presented appreciation tokens to three organisations that supported the camp.

The First Lady was accorded a Guard of Honour by students from various schools upon her arrival. Following the ceremony, she toured the campsite and joined the participants for a commemorative photograph.
