FDC to Strengthen Safety Measures in Hulhumalé Housing Units

Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has announced plans to strengthen safety measures across its housing units in Hulhumalé, with priority given to homes where children and people with special needs reside.

FDC Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel said the corporation is currently identifying units in the Amaan Udhares and Amaan Dhoadhi towers that require more immediate safety enhancements.

According to Hamdhan, the initiative is being carried out in line with instructions from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. While additional safety measures will eventually be introduced across all units, FDC is holding discussions to fast track the work in households considered to have a greater need for protection.

The move follows the President’s recent call for stronger safety measures in high rise buildings and on public roads after the deaths of two children in separate incidents, one in a road accident and another following a fall from a building.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Muizzu stressed the need for greater public awareness of sudden and potentially dangerous incidents, describing safety as a national and humanitarian responsibility requiring collective action.

The President specifically highlighted the importance of securing windows and balcony railings in high rise buildings. He also urged families and building managements to take additional precautions in homes where infants and people with physical or mental disabilities live.

Muizzu further called on government institutions, state owned enterprises and NGOs to work together on effective public awareness programmes aimed at preventing similar tragedies.
