The incinerator being developed in Thilafushi to dispose of hazardous waste and fibreglass is expected to become operational by mid-2028, Environment Minister Ali Shareef has said.
Speaking at the 10th Ahaa Forum on Sunday, the minister said the project is around 40 per cent complete, with construction delayed by disputes with the previous contractor.
He said discussions on appointing a new contractor have concluded and work is expected to resume soon.
The facility is intended to address the growing challenge of disposing of fibreglass and other durable materials that require specialised treatment.
