Maldives Welcomes Nearly 1.5 Million Visitors as Tourism Continues Strong Performance

The Maldives has welcomed 1,461,682 visitors so far this year, reaffirming the country’s continued strength as one of the world’s most sought-after tourism destinations.

According to the latest Maldives Tourism Updates issued by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation on September 3, a total of 1.46 million visitors had arrived in the Maldives as of September 2, 2026.

The figures highlight the sustained global demand for the Maldives, with visitors continuing to arrive from a diverse range of international markets.

China remains the Maldives’ leading source market, accounting for 18.7 percent of total arrivals, with 268,117 Chinese tourists visiting the country. Russia follows with 209,815 visitors, representing 14.6 percent of arrivals.

The United Kingdom ranked third with 110,983 visitors, while Italy contributed 93,276 arrivals and Germany 88,768. India also remained among the Maldives’ major tourism markets, recording 82,033 visitors.

The latest figures demonstrate the Maldives’ broad international appeal, with Europe, Asia and other key markets continuing to contribute significantly to the country’s tourism sector.

The strength of the tourism industry is also reflected in the continued availability of accommodation and connectivity across the country, supporting the Maldives’ ability to welcome visitors throughout the year.

With millions of travellers continuing to choose the Maldives for its unique natural beauty, luxury resorts and diverse tourism experiences, the sector remains a central pillar of the Maldivian economy.
