The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has launched the Maldives Guest Information System (MGIS), a new digital platform for tourism establishments to submit and manage guest information.
Launched on October 1, MGIS will centralise information including guest check-ins, check-outs, arrivals, departures and registration details. The information will also be shared with the Ministry of Tourism, allowing establishments to submit the required information through a single platform.
The system is being introduced in phases. Resorts, hotels and guesthouses with more than 50 beds will be required to begin reporting through MGIS from November 1, 2026, while other Green Tax-registered establishments will begin from January 1, 2027.
MIRA says MGIS is intended to make guest reporting more accurate and reduce administrative work. It can also be integrated with establishments’ property management systems, eventually reducing the need for manual data entry.
Green Tax returns and payments will continue to be filed through MIRAconnect, while guest information submitted through MGIS will be used to pre-populate the relevant Green Tax return.
