President and First Lady Conclude Unofficial Visit to Singapore

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have concluded their unofficial visit to Singapore and returned to Malé on Tuesday evening.

The President’s Office confirmed that the President and First Lady departed for Singapore on Saturday night, September 26, and returned to the Maldives on September 29. As the visit was unofficial, no details regarding the activities or purpose of the trip were disclosed by the President’s Office.

The latest visit marks President Muizzu’s seventh trip to Singapore since assuming office and his sixth unofficial visit to the country. Singapore has been the country he has visited most frequently during his presidency.

President Muizzu has maintained close engagement with Singapore since taking office, including an official State Visit in June 2025. During that visit, President Muizzu and Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Singapore and discussed strengthening cooperation in areas including infrastructure development, master planning, renewable energy, water and waste management, education and tourism.

The 2025 State Visit also included discussions between President Muizzu and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on economic cooperation and efforts to conclude a Bilateral Investment Treaty. The two countries also witnessed the signing of agreements covering capacity building, sustainability and environmental cooperation, and higher and vocational education.
