White Alert Issued Across Maldives

he Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a nationwide white alert, in effect from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today.

The MET Office said widespread rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected across much of the country until 6:00 p.m.

Southern atolls are forecast to experience south-easterly to southerly winds of 3 to 13 mph, while the rest of the country will see south-westerly to westerly winds of 5 to 15 mph. Wind gusts of up to 30 mph are expected during showers.

Sea conditions are forecast to remain slight to moderate, becoming moderately rough during squalls, with wave heights of 2 to 5 feet. The MET Office also warned of possible swell surges affecting some islands during high tide.
