The Maldives and Pakistan have signed agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s state visit to Islamabad on Wednesday.
The signing took place during President Muizzu’s three-day visit, hosted by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aimed at expanding cooperation across key sectors.
The agreements are expected to cover areas including healthcare, education, defence, finance, technology, tourism, climate change and media. Cooperation on direct flights between the two countries is also among the initiatives announced ahead of the visit.
President Muizzu and Prime Minister Sharif held high-level discussions on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding trade and economic ties.
The visit marks the first visit by a Maldivian president to Pakistan in 11 years and coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, established in 1966.
The full list of agreements signed has not yet been independently confirmed in the official reports available at the time of writing.
