The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has a new Vice President after Parliament approved the nomination of Shafeeg Mamdhoohu with 67 votes in favor during a special sitting on Sunday.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu submitted Shafeeg’s name during a parliamentary session held outside the regular sitting. The Human Rights and Gender Committee reviewed the nomination and recommended approval, which was supported by a majority of committee members present.
Shafeeg was appointed as a member of the Commission on September 8 before stepping into its top leadership role. He brings extensive administrative experience, having previously served as CEO of the Local Government Authority (LGA).
