President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have called for greater awareness, support and access to mental health services in the Maldives to mark World Mental Health Day on October 10.
In his message, President Muizzu emphasised the importance of listening to people experiencing mental health challenges, saying their lived experiences should guide efforts to improve services and remove barriers to care.
He highlighted the government's Mental Health Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029 and Dementia Strategic Action Plan 2026–2036. He also outlined plans for a national mental health policy, a comprehensive Mental Health Act and stronger mental health services across the country.
The President said the goal is to build a more compassionate and inclusive society where people can access the support they need.
