Eagle Hills Chairman Mohamed Alabbar says the proposed Ras Malé waterfront and marina project could create around 40,000 jobs during construction and another 15,000 to 18,000 permanent jobs once operational.
Speaking to Sun in an interview on October 8, Alabbar said the permanent jobs would span hotels, restaurants, residences, schools, parks and other businesses, adding that the project aims to offer competitive salaries.
Alabbar also said Maldivian businesses would have opportunities to participate as contractors, suppliers and service providers, while local companies would be able to invest in the project and share in its success.
He said the development could also benefit other sectors, including fisheries and trade, by attracting high-spending tourists. He further highlighted plans to create opportunities for young Maldivians through entrepreneurship programmes and exposure to technologies such as artificial intelligence.
The project is planned as a major waterfront destination featuring hotels, resorts, residences, a marina, restaurants, retail and leisure facilities. However, the job figures are projections shared by Alabbar, and the development’s detailed final agreement is still being worked out. <Cite refs=
