The Maldives is expanding its tourism GST framework to cover tourism products supplied through offshore booking platforms, foreign tour operators and travel agents.  The move brings more tourism-related transactions into the country’s tax system, helping ensure revenue generated from Maldivian tourism is captured more consistently, even when bookings happen through overseas companies.  For tourists, GST may be reflected in the price of tourism services booked through these channels, depending on how the cost is passed on. For resorts and hotels, it means tourism products sold through overseas platforms will also fall under the GST framework.
