An agreement has been signed to begin construction of the China-Maldives Friendship Hospital in Villimale’, funded through a grant from the Chinese government.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Waheed on behalf of the Maldivian government, while Chinese Embassy Counsellor Zhen Xu signed for China. The project was finalized during the president’s visit to China in January 2024.
Under the project, a 112-bed hospital with a total area of 12,890 square feet will be built. The Construction Ministry said work is expected to begin in the third quarter of this year.
