Maldives Tourism Sector Strengthens Capacity with 68,580 Beds Available Nationwide

The Maldives’ tourism industry continues to demonstrate its strong capacity to accommodate growing international demand, with 68,580 beds currently available across 1,326 tourism facilities nationwide.

According to the latest Maldives Tourism Updates released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, 98.9 percent of the country’s available tourist beds were in operation as of September 2, 2026, reflecting the high level of activity across the sector.

Resorts account for the largest share of the country’s accommodation capacity, with 45,891 beds across 184 resorts. Guesthouses provide a further 17,304 beds across 959 establishments, while 16 hotels offer 2,654 beds. Tourist vessels contribute another 3,481 beds through 172 vessels.

Of the beds currently in operation, resorts account for 66 percent of capacity, with 45,141 beds spread across 179 resorts and islands in 19 atolls.

Guesthouses account for 25 percent of operating capacity, with 17,304 beds across 959 guesthouses in 116 islands and 20 atolls. Hotels account for four percent, while tourist vessels contribute five percent.

The figures underline the increasingly diverse nature of the Maldivian tourism industry, extending beyond the traditional resort model and creating accommodation opportunities across inhabited islands and different tourism segments.

The strong operational rate also demonstrates the sector’s readiness to serve visitors throughout the year, with almost the entire available accommodation capacity actively supporting the country’s tourism industry.

The continued expansion and operation of tourism facilities across the atolls further strengthens the Maldives’ position as a globally competitive destination while spreading tourism activity across a wider number of islands.
