Record diplomatic turnout highlights Maldives’ growing international engagement, says President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted the strong international participation at this year’s Independence Day celebrations as a reflection of the Maldives’ expanding engagement with the global community.

Speaking at the official ceremony held this morning to mark the 61st Independence Day of the Maldives, President Muizzu noted that 113 diplomats representing 43 countries attended the celebrations, making it the highest diplomatic participation recorded at an Independence Day event in the past decade.

The ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Dr Mansour bin Mutaib bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Advisor to the King of Saudi Arabia, as the Guest of Honour, while Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman participated as a special guest.

President Muizzu said the successful hosting of the event demonstrated the progress achieved through his administration’s “Pro-Maldives” foreign policy.

He said the Maldives remains committed to strengthening ties with all countries while expanding its role in regional and international platforms.

The President also expressed the Maldives’ willingness to take the initiative in revitalising SAARC activities and contribute towards efforts to promote regional peace and cooperation.

He said maintaining close relations with Arab and Islamic nations remains an important aspect of the Maldives’ foreign relations, reflecting the sentiments and values of the Maldivian people.
