Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has opened a dedicated Calm Room at Terminal 1 of Velana International Airport as part of its newly launched Boli Programme, aimed at supporting passengers with hidden disabilities and special assistance needs.
The facility was officially inaugurated by MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed in the presence of representatives from Autism Care Maldives, Autism Association of Maldives, senior MACL officials and staff.
The Boli Programme is a new passenger care initiative designed to create a more inclusive and supportive airport experience for individuals whose needs may not always be visible. The programme focuses on helping passengers who may require additional assistance, understanding, patience or guidance during their journey.
The Calm Room provides a quiet, sensory-friendly environment for passengers with autism, hidden disabilities, sensory sensitivities, anxiety, or anyone who may feel overwhelmed by the busy airport setting.
The space features soft seating, child-friendly furniture, sensory play items, activity shelves, calming colours and dedicated areas where passengers and families can relax before continuing their journey.
As part of the programme, passengers requiring additional support can also collect Boli lanyards and cards from the Information Counter at Terminal 1. These identifiers will help airport staff recognise passengers who may need extra assistance and provide a smoother travel experience.
MACL says the Calm Room is the first step under the Boli Programme, with further initiatives planned to make the airport more accessible and inclusive for all travellers.
