First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has officially inaugurated the BML Raajje Junior Championship 2026 organised by the Netball Association of Maldives.
The tournament was launched at a ceremony held at the indoor hall of the Male’ Social Centre, where the First Lady signed the official tournament ball and met players and officials taking part in the competition.
The opening match was played between Huravee School and Jamaaluddin School, with Huravee securing a 23-3 victory. Aminath Thuhga of Huravee School was named Player of the Match and received the award from the First Lady.
Previously held as the Inter-School Netball Tournament, the competition aims to promote netball among young athletes in the Maldives. This year’s edition features 14 teams in the under-15 category and 11 teams in the under-17 category.
Youth Minister Abdulla Rafiu, Bank of Maldives CEO Mohamed Shareef and senior officials of the Netball Association attended the opening ceremony. The tournament is aimed at encouraging sports participation among school students and developing future national-level athletes.
