Hawks CEO’s Driving Licence Suspended After Lamborghini Crash on Sinamalé Bridge

The Maldives Police Service has suspended the driving licence of The Hawks Pvt Ltd Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hassan Rifau following a serious road accident involving a Lamborghini on the Sinamalé Bridge highway.

The accident occurred at around 8:42am on Friday, when the Lamborghini lost control and crashed into the steel structures supporting solar panels installed along the highway. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn and sustain extensive damage.

Rifau was reportedly driving the vehicle at the time, with a 13-year-old minor travelling with him. Both were taken to Tree Top Hospital following the crash for medical assessment and treatment and were subsequently discharged.

Police said the Lamborghini was extensively damaged in the collision and was considered beyond repair. After the necessary forensic information was collected as part of the investigation, the wreckage was released to its owner.

The police have suspended Rifau’s driving licence while the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the crash and are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The accident also caused significant damage to the solar-panel infrastructure along the highway, with the supporting structures reportedly bent and panels brought down by the impact.

Police have yet to establish whether speed, driver error, vehicle-related factors or another circumstance contributed to the latest crash. The investigation is continuing.
