Maldives Ports Limited has introduced major changes to the Malé North Harbor queue management policy, including the removal of the five-day “Hold” period and ending multiple queue registrations for the same vessel trip. The amendments will take effect from 20 July 2026 at 23:59 hours.
Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced significant amendments to the queue management policy at Malé North Harbor, aimed at improving efficiency and providing more convenient arrangements for vessels using the harbor.
Under the revised policy, the five-day “Hold” period previously allowed for vessels registered in the “Zone A” and “Zone C” queues will be removed. Previously, vessels could maintain their queue position for up to five days without cancellation. However, this option will no longer be available. The “Postpone” option will continue to remain in place under existing regulations.
MPL has also announced that vessels will no longer be allowed to register in multiple queues for the same trip. Going forward, a vessel seeking registration in the Zone A, Express Zone, or Zone C queues will only be permitted to select one queue.
According to MPL, a single trip refers to the period beginning from the allocation of a slot in the North Harbor queues, followed by the vessel docking at the quay wall for cargo loading, and ending after payment of the required quay wall fees and departure from the harbor.
The updated policy will take effect from 23:59 hours on Monday, 20 July 2026.
MPL said the changes were introduced after taking into consideration feedback and concerns raised by vessel owners using Malé North Harbor, and assured that further improvements to harbor services will continue based on stakeholder suggestions.
