President Muizzu attends Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended the national flag-hoisting ceremony held on Saturday morning to mark the 61st Independence Day of the Maldives.

The ceremony commenced at 6:00 a.m. at Republic Square and was also attended by Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef and senior government officials.

Following the hoisting of the national flag, a special prayer was recited to commemorate the occasion. The ceremony concluded with a performance of the Maldivian national anthem by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Military Band.

The Maldives celebrates Independence Day every year on 26 July, marking the country’s attainment of full independence from the British Protectorate in 1965. The day is observed nationwide with official ceremonies, patriotic events and celebrations honouring the nation’s sovereignty and history.
