Fencing permits to be issued for Gulhifalhu plots

The Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, announced today that the opportunity for recipients of land plots in Gulhifalhu allocated under the previous administration's housing scheme to begin fencing their properties will be opened very soon.

The Minister made this statement while responding to inquiries from the Member of Parliament for Machangolhi Central, Ahmed Zameer, during today's parliamentary session. MP Zameer's queries sought clarification on the progress of the Gulhifalhu reclamation project and the financial expenditures involved.

Minister Dr. Muththalib explained that the land-use plan formulated by the previous government for Gulhifalhu contained several discrepancies. Consequently, the current administration has developed a revised land-use plan and initiated additional reclamation efforts. He further assured the public that the process of handing over the plots to their respective owners would commence in the near future.

Regarding related housing projects, the Minister noted that the current initiatives encompass 1,347 land plots that were recently relocated from Giraavarufalhu to Gulhifalhu.

Providing a historical context for the Giraavarufalhu reclamation, the Minister stated that while the previous administration reclaimed 54 hectares through MFMC, the project had subsequently stalled. Under the current government, the practical work to reclaim the remaining 97 hectares was contracted to MACL and commenced on January 31, 2025.

Addressing the overall pace of these projects, Minister Dr. Muththalib acknowledged that the work is not progressing at the desired speed. However, he emphasized that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s policy is to ensure that projects initiated by the previous administration continue alongside the new pledges of this government. The Minister noted that managing both sets of priorities simultaneously requires careful strategic planning, which may lead to certain delays or operational challenges.
