Rafiu Tops PNC Vice Presidential Election as Six Elected

The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has elected six vice presidents, with Youth Minister Abdulla Rafiu securing the highest number of votes in the party’s leadership election held today.

Rafiu received 968 votes, or 88 percent, followed by Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam with 964 votes.

Nilandhoo MP Fathimath Saudha was elected with 923 votes, while Baarashu MP Ibrahim Shujau received 862 votes.

Economic Development and Trade Minister Mohamed Saeed secured 833 votes, and Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef received 780 votes.

The six elected vice presidents are:

• Abdulla Rafiu — 968 votes (88%)
• Ahmed Shiyam — 964 votes (88%)
• Fathimath Sauda — 923 votes (84%)
• Ibrahim Shujau — 862 votes (79%)
• Mohamed Saeed — 833 votes (76%)
• Mohamed Hussain Shareef — 780 votes (71%)

The elections were held during the PNC Special Congress, which formally opened last night, as the ruling party moves to finalise its internal leadership and council structure.

Delegates also voted to elect members to positions reserved for women and youth on the party council.
