A 51-year-old woman has died following a gas leak incident at a residence in Maafannu, Malé, on Thursday morning.
Police said they received a report at approximately 10:34 a.m. on August 27, 2026, after two individuals were found in critical condition at a residence on Dilkusha Lane.
One of the individuals was transported to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The deceased has been identified as Zahida Thaufeeq, 51, registered under Daftharu Number RS 6210, Malé.
The second individual, a 19-year-old woman, was taken to ADK Hospital and remains under medical treatment.
The incident is believed to have been caused by a gas leak, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
