New Measles Cases Decline to Nine

Nine new measles cases were recorded in the Greater Malé Area over the past week, down from 20 cases reported the previous week.

The new cases bring the total number of measles cases recorded in the Maldives this year to 252, according to the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

Most confirmed cases are Maldivians aged 18 and above.

HPA has identified 2,281 contacts of confirmed cases, with 215 still under active monitoring.

A total of 16,216 people have been vaccinated against measles so far.

HPA continues to offer vaccinations to people who are unsure whether they have completed the recommended two-dose vaccination series.

Vaccinations for those seeking to complete or confirm their vaccination status are available at the following locations:

• • Urban Primary Health Care Center (UPHCC): Sunday–Thursday, 8:30am–12:00pm
• • Hulhumalé Hospital: Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, 9:00am–11:00am; Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 1:00pm–3:00pm
• • Senahiya Military Hospital: Sunday–Thursday, 10:00am–4:00pm
• • Villingili Hospital: Sunday–Thursday, 1:30pm–3:30pm
• • ADK Hospital: Sunday–Wednesday, 4:00pm–5:00pm
• •Tree Top Hospital: Sunday–Thursday, 8:30am–10:00am

Separate vaccination arrangements are available for people identified as contacts of confirmed cases.

HPA is also continuing public awareness efforts through social media, television, radio and regular media briefings.

A team of experts from the World Health Organization is supporting the response by strengthening measles testing and surveillance and providing training.

HPA has urged the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports.

The agency has also stressed the importance of vaccination, early recognition of symptoms and seeking medical advice promptly.
