The report also showed that Customs collected MVR 406 million in revenue and MVR 8 million in royalties during the month, alongside continued growth in trade and shipping activity.
Imports excluding fuel stood at MVR 4.9 billion. Fuel remained the largest import category at MVR 1.8 billion, followed by food items excluding pork, alcohol and tobacco at MVR 1.7 billion. Machinery, mechanical appliances and electrical equipment accounted for MVR 972 million in imports, while base metals and articles of base metal totalled MVR 478 million. Products of the chemical and allied industries contributed MVR 301 million, with mineral products, wood products, miscellaneous manufactured articles, plastics and rubber, textiles and other goods making up the remainder of imports.
Thailand was the Maldives’ largest export destination in June, accounting for 62 percent of total exports valued at MVR 95 million. Great Britain followed with exports worth MVR 23 million, representing 15 percent of the total. India and France received exports valued at MVR 6 million and MVR 5 million respectively, while Mauritius imported goods worth MVR 5 million.
Fish products continued to dominate Maldivian exports. Frozen skipjack tuna was the leading export commodity at MVR 99 million, followed by prepared or preserved skipjack tuna worth MVR 28 million. Exports also included fresh or chilled yellowfin tuna loins valued at MVR 4 million, copper waste and scrap worth MVR 3 million, and fish meal and pellets unfit for human consumption worth MVR 3 million.
Oman remained the Maldives’ largest source of imports, supplying goods worth MVR 1.601 billion, or 24 percent of total imports. India ranked second with MVR 1.502 billion, followed by China at MVR 922 million. Singapore and Malaysia completed the top five import partners, contributing MVR 446 million and MVR 440 million respectively.
The report also highlighted steady maritime and customs operations during the month. A total of 90 vessels arrived at Maldivian ports, while 104 vessels departed. Customs processed 20,373 declarations, reflecting continued trade and cargo clearance activity across the country.
The June figures indicate sustained import demand, strong fisheries exports and continued customs revenue collection, underscoring the Maldives’ active trade performance during the month.
