Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), in collaboration with the Health Protection Agency (HPA), conducted a partial emergency exercise simulating a communicable disease incident at Velana International Airport on Thursday, 6 August 2026.
The exercise was designed to assess the airport’s preparedness and test coordination among relevant agencies in responding to a potential communicable disease case involving an arriving flight.
BEOND Airlines participated as the partner airline, supporting the simulation and helping create a realistic scenario for participating teams to assess existing emergency procedures, communication mechanisms, and response arrangements.
MACL said the exercise was successfully completed without disrupting airport operations or scheduled flights.
The company regularly conducts emergency exercises as part of its efforts to strengthen preparedness, enhance coordination among relevant stakeholders, and ensure that Velana International Airport remains equipped to respond effectively to a range of emergency situations.
