VIA Terminal 1 Crosses 500,000 Passengers

Velana International Airport’s new Terminal 1 has handled more than half a million passengers since opening for operations.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said Terminal 1 has served 508,008 passengers since December 15. Of these, 252,340 passengers departed the Maldives, while 255,666 arrived.

Passenger traffic peaked on Sunday. MACL said the terminal handled 19,551 passengers in a single day. This included 8,681 departures and 10,870 arrivals.

Terminal 1 officially opened on July 26 to mark the 60th anniversary of Maldives’ independence. MACL said 37 airlines are currently operating from the new terminal.ma
