The first two segments of the Ameenee Magu renovation project in Malé have been completed and opened to public transport.
The project was awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), with the road divided into several segments for reconstruction.
As part of the first segment, asphalt work was completed on the stretch between the Voice of Maldives and Dharumavantha Hospital.
The 1.79-kilometre Ameenee Magu was previously paved at a cost of MVR 84.4 million, but sections of the road developed major potholes and deteriorated shortly after completion.
The government has said the renovation is being carried out with greater attention to construction quality and the road's ability to withstand heavy traffic.
