New Rules for Housing Allocation in Greater Malé

The Ministry of Housing has introduced new regulations for allocating land and flats under government housing programmes in the Greater Malé region.

The rules apply to both current and future schemes, and outline how previously owned properties must be handled when receiving new housing.

They allow transfers to immediate family members in specific cases, while also requiring some properties to be forfeited to the state without compensation.

Applicants vacating flats must return them in proper condition within 30 days.

The ministry said the changes aim to streamline and clarify the housing allocation process.
