Maldives Customs Service has seized 6,328 vape cartridges that were being smuggled into the country through Male’ Commercial Harbour.
Customs said the cartridges were discovered during a special operation conducted at the harbour, where they had been concealed inside a shipment declared as general cargo.
The seizure comes after the government banned the import of vapes and electronic cigarettes, with the restriction taking effect on November 15, 2024.
According to Customs, a shipment containing 15,601 vape cartridges was also seized on November 18, marking the largest haul since the import ban was introduced.
The authority said a total of 22,309 vape cartridges have been seized in various operations this month alone.
Customs is investigating the latest case and said efforts will continue to prevent the illegal import of vape products into the Maldives.
