The Maldives has voiced support for Saudi Arabia after Houthi allegations that the Kingdom is besieging the Yemeni people, reaffirming its backing for Saudi-led and UN-supported efforts to restore peace and stability in Yemen.

The Maldives has expressed its support for Saudi Arabia following accusations made by the Houthi militia alleging that the Kingdom is besieging the Yemeni people.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Maldives supports the statement released by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemning the allegations made by the Houthi militia.
The ministry said the Maldives recognises Saudi Arabia’s longstanding efforts, carried out in cooperation with the internationally recognised Government of Yemen and in support of United Nations initiatives, to achieve peace in Yemen and ease the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The Maldives also acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s continued contributions to Yemen through development assistance and humanitarian aid.
Reaffirming its position, the Foreign Ministry said the Maldives stands in solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supports all efforts aimed at promoting peace, security and stability in Yemen.
The Maldives has consistently backed Saudi Arabia on regional and international issues and has maintained close diplomatic ties with the Kingdom. The two countries cooperate in areas including development, security, Islamic affairs and humanitarian assistance, while Saudi Arabia has played a significant role in supporting development projects in the Maldives.
