Maldivian Hafiza Secures Fourth Place in World’s Largest Quran Competition

Al-Hafiza Fatimah Shaya Zahir (M.A. Asas) has secured fourth place in the full Quran memorization category at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Quran Competition in Makkah, representing the Maldives.

Shaya’s fourth-place achievement comes with a prize of 170,000 Saudi Riyals. Her accomplishment marks a significant milestone for the Maldives, as she achieved the ranking among contestants from 133 countries participating in the world’s largest Quran competition.

This year’s competition is also historic as it marks the first time in the event’s history that female contestants have participated.

Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed described Shaya’s achievement as a great honor for the Maldives, emphasizing the significance of securing a high position in an international Quran competition of such stature.

A special ceremony announcing the competition results was held last night at Masjid al-Haram. The ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah, Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance Dr. Abdullatif Al-Asheikh, and Imam of Masjid al-Haram Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais. Minister Shaheem also attended the ceremony as a special guest.

Following the ceremony, Saudi Minister Dr. Abdullatif Al-Asheikh met with Shaya and her parents and personally congratulated her on her achievement, while offering words of encouragement.
