President Muizzu Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency in Meeting with SIDS Audit Leaders

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with visiting Heads of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) from Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and international delegates following the conclusion of the SIDS-SAIs Symposium 2026 and the opening of the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) Global Summit 2026 in AA. Ukulhas.

During the meeting, President Muizzu reaffirmed that accountability, transparency and good governance remain the foundation of his administration. He said the government is pursuing legislative and institutional reforms to eliminate illegal practices and establish a corruption-free governance framework, adding that these efforts continue to receive strong public support.

The President also outlined the government’s Maldives 2.0 vision, highlighting the goal of fully digitalising all public services within the next two years. He said the Maldives is strengthening its legal and institutional framework to improve efficiency while drawing on international best practices, including lessons from Estonia’s digital governance model.

The visiting delegates commended the Maldives for successfully hosting the summit and recognised the country’s leadership in advancing the interests of Small Island Developing States on the global stage. They also praised Auditor General Hussain Niyazy and the Maldivian government for their commitment to strengthening public sector accountability.

Delegates further noted that the participation of Cabinet ministers and senior government officials in the summit reflected strong political commitment to transparency, accountability and effective public oversight.

President Muizzu, in turn, commended Auditor General Hussain Niyazy and the staff of the Auditor General’s Office for successfully organising the summit in Ukulhas and for giving international participants an opportunity to experience Maldivian culture and island hospitality.

The meeting was attended by Auditor General Hussain Niyazy, representative of the Chair of INTOSAI Ms Manal Mohamed Khairy, Director General of the INTOSAI Development Initiative Mr Einar Gørrissen, representative of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) Ms Aránzazu Guillán Montero, and Heads of Supreme Audit Institutions from Small Island Developing States.

The SIDS-SAIs Symposium 2026 and the IDI Global Summit brought together audit leaders, policymakers and international partners to discuss strengthening accountability, transparency and governance in Small Island Developing States, with the Maldives serving as host of this year’s event.
