Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has joined a high-level Maldives delegation in Russia, with a focus on strengthening air connectivity and expanding opportunities to bring more Russian travellers to the Maldives.
The delegation is visiting Moscow and St. Petersburg from August 17 to 21, bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Visit Maldives Corporation, MACL, Maldivian and tourism industry stakeholders.
During the visit, MACL is engaging with existing and potential airline partners to explore opportunities to increase flight frequencies and capacity, strengthen year-round services and introduce new direct routes to Velana International Airport.
The airport operator is also meeting with tour operators, travel companies and other industry partners to better understand demand in the Russian market and identify opportunities to support additional air services through stronger tourism promotion and travel packages.
Russia remains one of the Maldives’ key tourism markets, and the delegation’s visit aims to build on the existing demand for travel to the Maldives while strengthening cooperation with Russian aviation and tourism partners.
The visit follows a similar Maldives delegation to China in July, during which representatives met airlines, tour operators and travel companies in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu to promote the Maldives and explore opportunities to improve direct air connectivity.
MACL’s participation in the Russia visit forms part of the company’s efforts to work closely with airlines and tourism stakeholders to strengthen connectivity to Velana International Airport and support the continued growth of the Maldivian tourism sector.
