Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and Villa International High School (VIHS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a student internship programme aimed at giving students practical workplace experience and greater exposure to career opportunities.
The agreement was signed by MACL Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed and VIHS Principal Ali Musthafa at a ceremony attended by senior officials from both organisations.
The programme will allow VIHS students to gain hands-on exposure to the different functions involved in the operation of Velana International Airport, including airport operations, engineering, information technology, customer service, logistics, corporate services, and safety and security.
Through the internship, students will also have the opportunity to develop key workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, accountability, adaptability, problem-solving and professionalism, while gaining a better understanding of how their academic learning translates into a professional environment.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed said the initiative reflects MACL’s commitment to “Empower and Develop Our People.” He noted that this commitment extends beyond the company’s existing workforce to young people who could pursue careers with MACL, within the aviation sector or across other fields in the future.
The partnership is expected to strengthen the link between education and industry by providing students with direct experience of the workplace and helping them identify potential career paths.
The MOU also lays the groundwork for broader collaboration between MACL and VIHS, including career-awareness programmes, industry talks, workplace visits, mentoring opportunities and other initiatives focused on student development.
The signing ceremony was attended by MACL Deputy Managing Director Mujthaba Latheef, Senior General Manager of Human Resources Ali Huzaim, members of MACL’s Learning and Development team, the VIHS senior management team and other representatives from both organisations.
