President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is set to confer the National Award of Honour and the National Award of Recognition at the official ceremony marking this year’s National Day, scheduled to be held in Utheemu at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15.
The National Award of Honour will be presented to three individuals and one organisation, while seven individuals and one company will receive the National Award of Recognition.
In addition, the National Award for Service will be conferred posthumously on one individual in recognition of their service.
The recipients were selected by the National Awards Committee, established by President Muizzu to assess and recommend individuals and organisations deserving of national recognition.
Recipients of the National Award of Honour will receive a shield of honour, a badge of honour and a commemorative certificate. Those receiving the National Award of Recognition will be presented with a commemorative plaque and a certificate.
The National Day ceremony will be held in Utheemu, the historic island associated with Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu, who is celebrated for leading the resistance against Portuguese rule in the Maldives.
