MACL Officially Launches Aviation Institute of Maldives

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has officially launched the Aviation Institute of Maldives (AIM) and held the institute’s first graduation ceremony, with 29 students successfully completing the Airport Security Management programme.

The ceremony was held at the ballroom of Hulhule Island Hotel, with Maldives National University (MNU) Chancellor Dr. Mahamood Shougee attending as the chief guest and formally inaugurating the institute. He was accompanied by MACL Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed and senior management of the company.

The event commenced with a performance by MACL’s Estate Security Services team, before graduation certificates were presented to the first cohort by Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed. Dr. Shougee presented special awards to the top-performing students.

Addressing guests at the ceremony, Shareef said AIM was established to develop the technical workforce required by the aviation sector.

“AIM exists to build the technical workforce our aviation sector needs,” he said.

He said the establishment of AIM reflects MACL’s long-term commitment to developing skilled personnel for the airport industry and strengthening the capabilities of its workforce.

Dr. Shougee commended MACL for its contribution to developing an educated and skilled workforce in the Maldives, describing the establishment of AIM as a significant step forward for technical and professional training in the country.

The institute’s first graduating class consisted of 29 students who successfully completed the Certificate Level 3 in Airport Security Management.

The programme was developed in accordance with the standards of the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) and aligned with the National Qualifications Framework. The course was conducted from 1 June to 9 September 2025.

The Airport Security Management programme was specifically designed to prepare new recruits joining MACL’s Estate Security Services team. The initiative forms part of MACL’s broader efforts to strengthen airport security and enhance the safety and security of passengers travelling through Velana International Airport.

Through AIM, MACL aims to provide structured training and professional development opportunities to build a skilled workforce capable of meeting the evolving requirements of the Maldives’ aviation industry.
