According to MPL, 372 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) were loaded onto MV Celestia last Sunday. The operation was completed by MPL staff in under 24 hours, making MV Celestia the fourth vessel handled at the Thilafushi berth since trial operations began in May 2026.
Port congestion at the Malé Commercial Harbor has long caused delays in cargo clearance and handling, impacting the Maldivian economy. The government of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is now implementing measures aimed at delivering a lasting solution.
Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed said resolving port congestion remains a key priority. In line with President Muizzu's presidential address, the government is working to relocate the Malé Commercial Harbor to Thilafushi by November 2027.
Until then, the government is continuing interim measures to reduce pressure on the main port. Operations at Thilafushi are central to these efforts, helping streamline cargo handling and reducing supply chain delays for businesses.
