MPL Sea-to-Air Cargo Service Handles Over 633 Tonnes in July

Maldives Ports Limited’s (MPL) Sea-to-Air Cargo Service handled more than 633 tonnes of cargo in July 2026, according to the company’s latest monthly statistics.

The figures released by MPL show that a total of 131 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) of cargo were processed through the service during the month, highlighting the continued growth of the Maldives as a regional logistics hub.

Cargo was transported via six international airlines: Emirates, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Saudia, SWISS and Turkish Airlines. The shipments were destined for several international markets, including the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Türkiye, the United Kingdom and the United States.

MPL’s Sea-to-Air Cargo Service enables cargo arriving in the Maldives by sea to be transferred efficiently to air freight for onward shipment, offering exporters and logistics providers faster access to global markets.

The service has continued to expand its international reach, supporting the government’s efforts to position the Maldives as a competitive transshipment and logistics hub in the Indian Ocean. The initiative has also contributed to strengthening trade connectivity by linking maritime cargo with major global air cargo networks through Velana International Airport.
