MPL secures land for Uligan yacht marina development

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has secured approximately 70,471 square metres of land in HA. Uligan for the development of a yacht marina, in a move aimed at expanding tourism and maritime economic activity in the northern Maldives.

MPL and the Uligan Council signed an agreement to lease the land required for the Uligan Yacht Marina Project. The agreement was signed by MPL Chief Executive Officer Captain Mohamed Junaid and Uligan Council President Ahmed Moosa.

The proposed marina is expected to provide visiting yachts with modern berthing facilities and a range of supporting services, while creating new opportunities for tourism, trade and other commercial activities in Uligan.

According to previously announced plans by MPL, the first phase of the project will establish a marina capable of accommodating 18 yachts at a time. The facility is also planned to include integrated Immigration and Customs services, allowing visiting vessels to complete key entry and clearance procedures at the marina.

The development is expected to strengthen Uligan’s position as a maritime gateway in the northernmost part of the Maldives and support greater movement of yachts and maritime businesses to the region.

MPL has described the project as a major investment in the northern maritime economy, with the potential to generate new economic opportunities for Uligan while contributing to the diversification of tourism beyond the country’s traditional resort destinations.

The agreement with the Uligan Council marks a key step towards advancing the marina project, with the secured land providing the foundation for the planned development and associated facilities.
