MTCC Begins Road Repair Works on Segment 1 of Ameenee Magu

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has commenced repair works on the first segment of Ameenee Magu, with machinery mobilised overnight ahead of the start of construction activities today.

In an update shared on Monday, MTCC said the works on Segment 1 cover the stretch of road from Izzudheen Magu to Dharumavantha Hospital.

According to the company, crews have begun removing the existing asphalt layer as part of the initial phase of the project, preparing the road surface for the next stage of rehabilitation works.

The repair programme is expected to improve road conditions along one of Malé City’s busiest corridors, which serves thousands of motorists and pedestrians each day, including those travelling to Dharumavantha Hospital.

Ameenee Magu has experienced significant wear over the years due to heavy traffic, prompting repeated calls for road rehabilitation. The road is a key transport route connecting several government institutions, commercial establishments, schools, and healthcare facilities in the capital.

The latest works form part of the government’s broader efforts to improve road infrastructure and enhance the safety and efficiency of urban transport in Malé. MTCC has been undertaking several road maintenance and redevelopment projects across the Greater Malé region in recent months, including upgrades to drainage systems and road resurfacing aimed at addressing deterioration caused by heavy use and adverse weather conditions.
