Verification Begins for Greater Malé Housing Applications

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has commenced the verification of applications submitted for land plots and flats under the government’s “Boahiyaavahikan Enmenah” policy.

The verification process involves cross-checking information provided by applicants against records obtained from various government institutions and local councils, the Ministry said.

Applicants will be notified through the Bohiyavahikan portal if discrepancies or other issues are identified in their applications. Those who believe the information highlighted by the Ministry is incorrect will be given seven calendar days to submit a detailed response along with relevant supporting documents.

The Ministry said applicants will also receive SMS notifications regarding changes to their application status through the mobile number provided when the application was initially submitted.

All responses to issues identified during verification must be submitted exclusively through the Bohiyavahikan portal. The Ministry stressed that responses sent by email, physical letters or other means will not be accepted.

Applications for which identified issues are not addressed within the specified seven-day period will be considered ineligible or incomplete.

The verification marks a significant stage in the government’s major housing initiative for the Greater Malé Region. The programme aims to address housing challenges in the capital and surrounding areas by providing residential land and flats to eligible applicants.

A large number of applications were submitted for the housing programme, reflecting the high demand for affordable housing and residential land in the Greater Malé Region. The government has previously said the allocation process will involve verification of applicants and assessment according to established criteria.

The verification process is expected to help ensure that information submitted by applicants is accurate before the Ministry proceeds with the final selection and allocation of housing units and land plots.

Applicants have therefore been urged to regularly check the Bohiyavahikan portal and the mobile number registered with their application so they do not miss notifications or the seven-day deadline for responding to any issues.
