Maldives Wins Over Visitors as Most Say They’ll Return

The Maldives is leaving visitors eager to come back, with a new survey showing overwhelming satisfaction among tourists and a strong intention to return after their first visit.

The Maldives Visitor Survey 2025, released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, found that nearly four out of five tourists chose the Maldives as their first-choice holiday destination rather than as an alternative. More than two-thirds travelled exclusively to the Maldives, reinforcing its appeal as a destination in its own right rather than a stop on a wider regional trip.

The survey also found visitor satisfaction remained exceptionally high. More than half of respondents said their holiday exceeded expectations, while fewer than five percent reported being disappointed. Most said they were highly likely to recommend the Maldives to others and planned to visit again, despite many being first-time travellers.

Travellers reported experiencing few issues during their stay. The most common challenges were weather-related disruptions and flight connections, with airports, immigration services and accommodation receiving generally positive feedback.

The ministry said the findings indicate the Maldives continues to enjoy strong global demand and a positive international reputation. It added that future growth will depend on improving the overall visitor experience, strengthening coordination across the tourism industry and increasing the economic value generated by tourism.
