President Muizzu Concludes Visit to AA. Ukulhas, Returns to Malé

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have concluded their official visit to AA. Ukulhas and returned to Malé after participating in a series of official engagements focused on governance, community development and environmental sustainability.

The President and First Lady were welcomed upon their arrival in Ukulhas by members of the Ukulhas Island Council, heads of local institutions and island residents. They were accompanied by Cabinet ministers, senior government officials and representatives of state-owned enterprises.

During the visit, President Muizzu attended the closing session of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) Symposium and the opening of the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) Global Summit. Addressing delegates, he underscored the importance of continued investment in integrity, accountability, transparency, innovation and genuine partnership, stating that these principles would help ensure future generations inherit more resilient states, stronger democracies, healthier economies and more hopeful societies.

The President also met with members of the Ukulhas Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) and heads of local institutions to discuss the island’s development priorities. During the meeting, local representatives highlighted key needs, including additional housing, further land reclamation, improved sports facilities, upgraded healthcare services and expanded waste management infrastructure.

As part of his visit, President Muizzu inaugurated the newly developed volleyball court in Ukulhas and attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the island’s new Sports Complex. He also officially launched the physical construction of a 50-unit housing project, aimed at addressing the island’s growing housing demand.

President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also participated in a tree-planting ceremony under the government’s 5 Million Trees Planting Programme, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to environmental conservation and climate resilience.

The visit formed part of the President’s broader efforts to engage directly with island communities while advancing national initiatives in governance, housing, infrastructure, sports and environmental sustainability.
